The challenge
Learning to score a stained tissue slide is hard to teach with static screenshots. Learners need to see where an expert looks, in what order, and why, and then try it themselves.
This demo uses a fictional biomarker and case. It shows the approach I use on client projects, which are confidential.
My role
Instructional design, Storyline development, custom HTML and JavaScript for the slide viewer, and screencast video production.
Process
- Task analysis: broke an expert's slide read into a sequence of decision points.
- Storyboard: one "stop" per decision point, each with a narrated screencast and a check question.
- Prototype: built a web page that embeds a zoomable slide viewer, then linked it into Storyline.
- Review: walked through the prototype with the SME and revised the stops.
The solution
A guided review in five steps: meet the case, take a first look on your own, follow the expert's stops, score the slide, and compare your answer with the expert's read.

Accessibility
Captioned screencasts with transcripts, text descriptions of each annotated region, keyboard-operable navigation, and colors that pass WCAG 2.2 AA contrast.
Results
The project is in the review stage. Training outcomes will be measured at Kirkpatrick levels 1 and 2 (learner reaction and learning).
Next iteration
Initial planning is exploring AI-generated feedback at each stop.
